One great thing about adolescence is that process of self-discovery.
Wondering who you are, how you relate to the world, where your place is, where you fit in. Many adults disagree, as teenagers tend to get influenced negatively. Teen pregnancy, alcohol and substance abuse, narrow-minded viewpoints and judgments…most, if not all, of these societal ills begin in adolescence.
But the positives are too major to be discarded. The young writers, the youth clubs making a difference, the future Olympic gold medalists of our time…the truth is that we all have a blank canvas- regardless of age, and life phase.
We all choose differently. What worked for us then might not work for us now, or might not work for us tomorrow. At any given point, you have a choice to think differently. Thought leads to word and action, which are both effective and powerful agents of change.
You have the power to be whoever in the world you want to be. Just open yourself up to the possibility that because you painted your canvas black, doesn’t mean it has to stay black.
This is true of so many aspects of our lives. True, we cannot change everything, but we can change a lot. More than we think. And if nothing else, we can change our perception.
If we had a perception of constantly changing, experimenting and growing our way through life instead of this stagnant, complacent planet of people I come across daily, then the world would look very different.
The power of the mind is the most powerful force in the universe, because it teaches us that we are capable of change at any given moment. We just have to be open to it.
